Yeungnam University

Outline:

Yeungnam University is a private research university, located in Gyeongsan, North Gyeongsang.  

Yeungnam University was founded in 1967 through the merger of Daegu College and Chunggu College which were founded in 1947 and 1950 respectively. In 1972, the university's new main campus opened in Gyeongsan east of Daegu. The university includes colleges of Law and Medicine and a teaching hospital. Yeungnam University has two campuses, Gyeongsan is the main campus and other is Daegu campus.

Yeungnam University has 23,700 undergraduate students, 3,400 graduate students, and 1,036 faculty members and staff with fine facilities and academic organizations. 

Yeungnam University offers eighteen schools on one campus: Humanities and Sciences, Law, Medicine (Yeungnam University Hospital), Business, Earth Sciences, Engineering and Education, and others.

In 1996, Yeungnam University is approved as an Excellent University in Undergraduate and Graduate Schools, and also as the "Best University" in the fields of business and International Trade, by the Korean University Education Committee.

In 2010, Asian Correspondent placed Yeungnam University as one of the top 10 “international universities in Asia”, alongside Singapore’s NUS, NTU; Taiwan’s National Taiwan University; S Korea’s Yonsei University & Seoul University etc.

Yeungnam was ranked 40th in the world in the math sector in the '2012 QS World University Rankings'. YU is the only Korean university that was ranked in the top 50 in math. Webometrics ranked Yeungnam University 19th place amongst Universities in Korea.

The University has partnerships with 181 overseas universities & institutes in 28 countries. It is heightening its international status by having exchanges from prominent universities such as Michigan Technological University, UC Davis, Tsinghua University, Hong Kong University of Science & Technology, Indian Institute of Technology, University of Adelaide, Strasbourg Universite and more.
