The University is founded in 1971 and has a total of 11 faculties, including law, computer science, IT, engineering, social affairs, public health, and transport-sports-tourism-media etc. Ostfalia offers application-oriented and forward-looking studies, practise-based research and development aspects in their curriculum. 

The University is located in eastern Lower Saxony, Germany and are separated into four campus sites (Wolfenbüttel, Braunschweig, Wolfsburg, Salzgitter and Suderburg). Each campus focuses on a particular specialization. The University has developed educational links with over 80 foreign universities all over the world.
