Outline

CNU is a publicly funded University and is one of the 10 flagship national universities in S Korea.   It has the 2nd largest campus amongst the national Universities in Korea with some 30,000 student population, 1,100 full time faculty staff and 1,200 international students from more than 28 countries, The University was established in 1952 and was voted “Top 50 Universities in Asia” by Asiaweek in 2005.

CNU has 13 colleges which offer undergraduate & postgraduate programmes in areas of Economics and Management, Humanities, Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, Engineering, Agriculture and Life Sciences, Law, Pharmacy, Medicine, Human Ecology, Fine Arts and Music, Veterinary Medicine and Bioscience and Biotechnology.   It also operates a national university hospital.

The Faculty of Economics & Management of CNU offers English taught modules for exchange students.  SBM has evaluated the academic courses under the areas of management, accounting, communication and sport science and found them to be suitable to our taught Diploma levels.  

In addition, CNU has an active globalisation strategy, collaborating with more than 113 sister Universities in 28 countries around the world. 



Housing:

 

On-campus (Dormitory)

There are two types of rooms, which are designed for four people and two people respectively. All rooms are equipped with a bed, desk & chair, and closet for each person. Basically, two meals (breakfast & dinner) are provided to all the dormitory residents. 

Off-campus Boarding House

The rent is around ₩ 300,000 - ₩400,000 per month. In general, two meals a day and a laundry service are included. Self-boarding You can look for a studio (so-called one-room apt. with bathroom and kitchen) near the university. The range of rent varies (₩200,000 - ₩400,000/month) according to the condition of facilities, proximity, etc

Transportation:

The Daejeon Metropolitan City is 150 km away from the capital city of Seoul
(or 50-minute distance from Seoul by KTX high-speed rail).

The most convenient way to get to Daejeon is by taking a bus from the airport.
Bus fare (one-way): 14,200 (KRW) for standard bus 21,300 (KRW)for deluxe bus.
Where to take: Bus stop 9D
Time required: Approximately 3 hours

How to get to CNU:

Take a taxi or bus (#180, 705) to CNU. Taxi fare is about \6,000, and it takes
approximately 15 minutes in a normal traffic flow.

Grocery Shopping
 
Grocery shopping can be done at big shopping centre such as Home Plus or E-Mart.
Spending amount is depend on each individual.
Usually, I would spend on average of 20,000 won .
 *Meals include Tonkatsu with Tomato Spaghetti,  Samgyetang, Chicken Jjimdak, Fried Chicken, Bibimbap, Mackerel Fish, Dak Galbi,Seafood.

 Learning Points:
 
Being a whole new person

          •As we enter the completely new environment without our family and friends, we are force to matured up and make a wise 

          and responsible decision. There will be no parents that will help to take care of our needs. We need to make our own 

          decisions and look for better alternatives. It helps to exercise our dependability!

 

Adaptation skills

         •New place and new people will force us to adjust to this changes. We will need to make more friends by talking to strangers. 

          Not only in school, but when you go travelling, you still need to communicate with the strangers to ask for direction and etc.

 

New perspective and knowledge

        •Being in new school with new professors, the methods of teaching is different from NYP. You get the chance to experience 

         their class and listen to their experience. It surely helps you to gain new view and way on how to address a problem.


 
 Suggestions: 

 

Be understanding!

         •Get ready for some cultural shocks and all those custom you need to follow. Be more open minded to accept them and try to enjoy it as a unique experience.

Keep your spending under control

         •Plan your spending properly to prevent short of money nearing the end of your stay.

Make as many friends as you can

         •This is great to overcome the home sick feeling. Besides that, you will form a strong and memorable friendship.

Explore the city

         •It is a great way to spend the weekend and get to know more about the city you living in. while exploring you can try all the delicious food.

Study hard

         •While enjoying yourself there, do not forget to study as you do not want to fail any modules.
