INCHEON NATIONAL UNIVERSITY

 

Outline:

Incheon National University (INU), previously also known as the University of Incheon, is a national university established and operated by the government of Republic of Korea (South Korea).

 

INU was first founded as a private college known as the Incheon Technical College in January 1979. Later, it was renamed Incheon College in December 1979, before getting designated as a full university in 1988.

 

INU is located in the international city of Songdo which is also known as the New Songdo City, located in the IFEZ (Incheon Free Economic Zone). It is a 2-hour ride from Incheon International Airport, and a 90-minute ride to downtown Seoul via subway.

 

Spanning some 45 hectares of land, INU comprises 29 buildings that include 12 undergraduate colleges, and 8 post-graduate schools. The 12 undergraduate schools (colleges) at INU are:

  • Northeast Asian Economics and Commerce
  • Arts & Physical Education

In total, INU offers no less than 65 Bachelors, 35 Masters, and 28 Doctoral Degree programmes. It has a total staff strength (academic and non-academic) of about 700, and student enrolment number of about 14,000.

 

INU also has an Institute for Korean Language Studies that was set up for the primary purpose of teaching the Korean language to foreigners and Korean students from overseas. The Institute focuses on the instruction of speaking, listening, reading, and writing the Korean language, and it offers opportunities for foreign students to experience Korean history, culture, and society together, with the Korean language.
