Lehman College is a public, 4-year comprehensive college offering more than 50 undergraduate majors and programs; some 40 graduate degree programs; 15 advanced certificates; and one doctoral programme in conjunction with the CUNY Graduate Center. Lehman's tree-lined 37-acre campus is located in a residential section of the northwest Bronx, along the historic Jerome Park Reservoir. The New York Times called Lehman “the most attractive of the CUNY colleges with some of its finest facilities”.

Lehman College has some 9,863 undergraduate students and 2,424 graduate students, or a total enrolment of 12,287 students. The college has a student centered curriculum and boast of a 16 to 1 student / faculty ratio and an average class size of 18. Students at Lehman come from over 90 countries. In Oct 2011, the Time classified Lehman College as one of the “Most Affordable Public Colleges”.

Lehman College is divided into 4 main departments: Arts and Humanities, Education, Natural and Social Sciences and Adult and Continuing Education. Lehman offers undergraduate courses from the following departments & disciplines: African and African American Studies; Anthropology; Art; Biological Sciences; Chemistry; Counseling, Leadership, Literacy, and Special Education; Early Childhood and Childhood Education; Economics and Business; English; Environmental, Geographic and Geological Sciences; Health Sciences; History; Journalism, Communication & Theatre; Languages and Literatures; Latin American and Puerto Rican Studies; Mathematics and Computer Science; Middle and High School Education; Music; Nursing; Philosophy; Physics and Astronomy; Political Science; Psychology; Sociology; and Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences.

Lehman College is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. Lehman is ranked in 2011 and 2010 by U.S. News & World Report as a Tier 1 and Top 50 Public College for Regional Universities (Northeast). It is one of only 13 institutions nationally to be selected as an "Institution of Excellence" in the First Year of College. It is also the first of the CUNY colleges to be accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
