Oita University

Oita University is a public institution founded in 1921 and was chartered as a university in 1949. In 2003, the Oita University was formed with the merger of the former Oita University and Oita Medical University. It has two campus location: Dannoharu and Hasama. 

The University now consists of 4 faculties and 5 graduate schools : (i) Faculty of Economics (ii) Faculty of Medicine / University Hospital (iii) Faculty of Engineering (iv) Faculty of Education & Welfare Science. Graduate schools include Economics, Engineering, Medicine, Education and Social Services. Student population is close to 6,000 including 168 international students from over 25 countries.

The University is active in arranging student exchanges and in engaging joint research activities with overseas Universities. Oita offers a special course of study titled "International Program at Oita University" ("IPOU" for short) for international students. The IPOU is operated by the International Education and Research in 2007 and is formally recognized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. The program aims to expand the Exchange Promotion Scheme by accepting students who do not have Japanese linguistic ability.

Oita City has a population of 465,000 and is situated in a quiet residential area which is ideal for exchange study. The cost of living is also cheaper than Tokyo. The quotation for campus housing is about US$50 per month per student.

 Oita University maintains international exchange agreements with 54 universities in more than 18 countries.
